Recertification Requirements
To maintain the high standards of this profession and to assure continuing awareness and appropriate incorporation of new knowledge in the field, the Substance Abuse Certification Alliance of Virginia requires that all SACAVA certifications be renewed every two (2) years.
To be re-certified an individual must:
- The Certified Clinical Supervisor must hold and maintain the prerequisite credential (AODA,AAODA, CCDP or CCJP)or hold and maintain the specialty substance abuse credential in another professional discipline in the human services field at the master’s level or higher and six hours of continuing education in clinical supervision must be earned every two years. CEs may renew at different intervals but must require at least 3 hours for every year of certification. The hours used towards recertification may be a part of the 40 hours used for the AODA, AAODA, CCDP or CCJP recertification.
- Maintain knowledge of the discipline through forty (40) clock hours of documented ongoing pertinent education and training within the last two (2) years. No more than 50% (20 hours) of training can be from in-service training and all hours must be SACAVA approved. Continued training must meet SACAVA's original training/education standard, in order to be approved. The CCS Certification only requires six (6)
clock hours of clinical-supervision-specific training if the individual also holds a CAC certification.\
