• Have an active certification as a CAC (SACAVA) or hold a specialty substance abuse credential in another professional discipline in the human services field at the master's level or higher. 
• Verification of 5 years (10,000 hours) of counseling experience treating AODA population.
• Verification of 2 year (4,000 hours) of clinical supervisory experience in the AODA field. These 2 years may be included in the previous 5 years of experience but must include provisions of 200 contact hours of face-to-face clinical supervision.
• Thirty (30) hours of SACAVA approved didactic training in clinical supervision. This must include a minimum of six (6) clock hours specific clinical supervision training in each of the following areas: 
  • Assessment/evaluation (counselor) 
  • Counselor development 
  • Management/administration
  • Professional responsibilities 
• Submission of 3 letters of reference from individuals familiar with applicant's work as a clinical supervisor, one of whom must have supervised the candidate's clinical supervision.
• Subscribe to a code of professional conduct.
• Pass the national IC&RC written exam administered by SACAVA.

• NOTICE!   A $50 late fee will be required if applicants fail to return additional information within a 30 day extension period that may be requested by SACAVA for certification and recertification.
