CAC Certification Requirements:
- Have a minimum of 270 hours
of documented training and/or education in both alcohol
and drug treatment.
- Provide documentation of at least 300 performance hours supervised practical training in the twelve (12) core functions with a minimum of 10 hours in each core function. Clinical supervision shall be
provided by a SACAVA certified clinical supervisor or a
SACAVA board pre-approved supervisor.
- Submit references from two
individuals and your clinical supervisor who can attest to
your professional knowledge and skills.
- Submit evidence of at least
6000 hours of alcohol and drug abuse counseling work
experience during the last six (6) years. The SACAVA board
may substitute relevant formal education for part of the
work experience requirements. Formal education encompasses
High School Diploma/GED,
AA/AS, BA/BS and MA/MS degrees in the human services
field.
- Written Case
Study (five copies of case study must be submitted)
effective 9/01/06.
- Subscribe to a code of
professional conduct.
- Pass the national IC&RC
written exam administered by SACAVA.
- Successfully complete a Case
Presentation Method (CPM) oral examinaton.
- Pay all
application and certification fees and mail to SACAVA,

- NOTICE!
A $50 late fee will be required if applicants fail to return additional information within a 30 day extension period that may be requested by SACAVA for certification and recertification.
